<image:title>TobeJex Guides - Nintendo Switch: Joy-Con Shells & Buttons - 1: Left Joy-Con</image:title>
<image:caption>Like other guides, I will suggest starting with the left Joy-Con first, as it has fewer pieces and longer ribbon cables than the right Joy-Con. Start by unscrewing the four triscrews on the back and gently pry the shell apart.</image:caption>

<image:title>TobeJex Guides - Nintendo Switch: Joy-Con Shells & Buttons - (Complete) Left Joy-Con</image:title>
<image:caption>The Left Joy-Con is complete. Go ahead and try to use it on your switch, test every button and make sure they work. Now go grab some water or a snack, then let’s move on to the Right Joy-Con.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>

<image:title>TobeJex Guides - Nintendo Switch: Joy-Con Shells & Buttons - 1: Right Joy-Con</image:title>
<image:caption>The Right Joy-Con is very similar to Left, with a few extra pieces and slightly shorter ribbon cables. Your experience with the Left Joy-Con should help you out with this one. Start by unscrewing the four triscrews on the back and gently pry the shell apart.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5ec57f09f7b9a46d9a8c43bb/1590356744941-23J8LJ51SVDJXHCR8YSW/JC+%2840%29.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>TobeJex Guides - Nintendo Switch: Joy-Con Shells & Buttons - 2: Right Joy-Con</image:title>
<image:caption>You should now notice the extra pieces, being the Antenna (tucked along side the battery) and the infrared sensor (located at the bottom of the shell).</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>

<image:title>TobeJex Guides - Nintendo Switch: Joy-Con Shells & Buttons - 3: Right Joy-Con</image:title>
<image:caption>Remove the battery the same way you removed it from the Left Joy-Con. With a pair of tweezers, remove the Antenna from the board (the terminal should be right next to the battery terminal).</image:caption>

<image:title>TobeJex Guides - Nintendo Switch: Joy-Con Shells & Buttons - 4: Right Joy-Con</image:title>
<image:caption>Remove the battery tray just like you did on the Left Joy-Con. Remember to set these screws aside for reassembly. Gently release the grey and black latches securing ribbon connectors to the board (tweezers are your friend), with the exception of the two at the bottom left of the board (just above the rumbler).</image:caption>

<image:title>TobeJex Guides - Nintendo Switch: Joy-Con Shells & Buttons - 5: Right Joy-Con</image:title>
<image:caption>Here we go again. The good news is, the process is identical (but mirrored) to the Left Joy-Con. The bad news is, this is (in my opinion) the second hardest part of the Right Joy-Con. Carefully remove the ZR trigger.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Remove the remaining screws holding the main board in place, set those aside as well. Gently start lifting the board up. You should see a black frame just below the board, as well as a connection to the infrared sensor. Gently alternate prying the corners of the frame and sensor up. Again, there is adhesive working against you, but you’ll get it out eventually, just be patient and gentle. You should see the A, B, X, and Y buttons, the Home button, and the + button with their corresponding rubber pads now. Remove them all and set them aside.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Grab some tweezers and move that black ring from where the thumbstick mounts over to the new shell. Surprise, there will be some adhesive underneath. Take your new A, B, X, and Y buttons and insert them into the new shell (remember to be mindful of their position and orientation). Place the rubber pad over the buttons. Next take the + button and insert it into the new shell, and place its rubber pad over the button. Lastly grab that home button, put it in place, and slap that clear pad on top of it. All of these pads should fit (actually sort of loosely) onto a lip on the shell.</image:caption>

<image:caption>You’re almost done (In terms of counting steps)! Move your board assembly over into the shell, reversing the process used to remove it. Black frame with Infrared sensor in first, then the board (with screws), then the rumbler. Don’t force the rumbler in place, if it isn’t fitting try adjusting the infrared sensor. They are designed to fit like Tetris pieces.</image:caption>

<image:title>TobeJex Guides - Nintendo Switch: Joy-Con Shells & Buttons - 26: Right Joy-Con</image:title>
<image:caption>Remember back in step 5 when I said there was bad news? This is the part I am talking about. In my opinion this was the most frustrating part of the entire project. The goal is to get that short tiny little ribbon cable from the ZR button board fixed to the main board at the top left (as shown in picture). The small length of the cable makes it very awkward to get your tweezers in there to slide the connector in place. If you don’t get it first try, don’t stress out. I am there with you, friend. This part (in my opinion) was just as frustrating as threading a tiny needle. Keep working at it, you’ll get it eventually!</image:caption>
</image:image>

<image:title>TobeJex Guides - Nintendo Switch: Joy-Con Shells & Buttons - 27: Right Joy-Con</image:title>
<image:caption>You’re on the final stretch! The rest of the process is a piece of cake compared to step 26. Now its time to slip that R button in place. It works the same as it did on the Left Joy-Con, just line up the spring and slide it down gently.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>

<image:title>PC - Build Logs - Cupcake Commander - Render</image:title>
<image:caption>Render: Nothing speaks cupcakes more than purple, pink, and blue across a white surface. Unfortunately, main board PCB’s tend to only come in black or white and choices are very limited on X570 boards in general. The Prime X570 pro is a great board, but unless your build theme is just black and white, the look can really upset the color balance of your build. We decided to design a custom motherboard cover to try and hide that nastiness and bring some more of those cute colors into focus. The plan is to try and stretch the cover from the top to bottom of the chassis, but we aren’t sure about the measurements just yet. We found that Primo Chill likes to make fun colored fittings and cooling components, so will be sticking with them for the radiator, tubing, and fittings. utilizing Cablemod’s online configuration utility, we were able to design some custom power cables to help the blue fittings pop.</image:caption>

<image:title>PC - Build Logs - Cupcake Commander</image:title>
<image:caption>Mounting the card horizontally will keep the option for expansion open, but the stock back plate is going to need some love to blend in. We found that V1Tech specializes in just this sort of thing, and even offers an online configuration tool that allows you to design your own. We went with the multi-zone RGB model with a solid white background. The diamond designs will be cut outs, rather than black lines as illustrated in render above.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - Tobie Johnson</image:title>
<image:caption>This website is a space I dedicate to sharing my latest hobbies and custom creations, or projects as I call them. As my knowledge and interests expand, so does my desire to share the experience, and I aim to achieve that by capturing the excitement of the process in build logs, how-to guides, code snippets, or galleries. My strongest skills are IT-focused: scripting, automation development, backup and disaster recovery, networking, systems administration, etc. The skills I am currently trying to improve are woodworking, doodling, writing, and general home improvement. With a wide range of interests, there will come the need for much practice and discipline, which translates to endless opportunities to create new content that I can share with others. Some say, “the best way to learn is by doing”, and a great way to learn is to have a project. Everyone needs a project. These are my projects. this is TobeJex.</image:caption>
